Nine Trinidad and Tobago nationals were honored at a small Awards Ceremony at the Trinidad Hilton and Conference Centre on June 25, 2008, to recognize scholarship recipients under the 2008 Fulbright Program administered by the U.S. Embassy.

U.S. Ambassador Dr. Roy L. Austin presented the nine awardees with certificates.  In his remarks, he told them that,  as Fulbrighters, they were expected to make a lifelong comitment to active leadership in their communities upon their return.

Also presenting award certificates to their scholars were representatives from EOG Resources Trinidad Ltd. and Atlantic LNG Co. of Trinidad and Tobago, both corporate sponsors under the 2008 Fulbright 2000 Program.

Fields of study selected by corporate sponsors BP Trinidad and Tobago, LLC and Republic Bank Ltd., under the 2009 Fulbright 2000 Program, were also announced.  The Fulbright 2000 BP Scholarship will be offered in Geoscience and the Fulbright 2000 Republic Bank Scholarship will be offered in Information Technology Security.

Further details for both of these scholarships will be posted soon on the U.S. Embassy's website: trinidad.usembassy.gov and will also be carried in the daily newspapers.  Suitably qualified persons are invited to apply.

The Fulbright 2000 Program is a private/public sector initiative inspired by the United States Embassy, Port of Spain, with the indispensable assistance of the sponsors, offering scholarships to enable the best and brightest of the next generation from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to obtain two-year masters degrees from leading universities in the United States.  Matching funds are provided in the form of tuition waivers at U.S. universities, obtained by the program's administrators, Academic and Professional Programs for the Americas (LASPAU), affiliated with Harvard University.

The traditional Fulbright Scholarships continue to be funded solely by the United States Government.
