U.S Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Len Kusnitz today honored Diana Mahabir-Wyatt for achieving a place as one of the top finalists in the Western Hemisphere for the U.S. Department of State’s 2009 International Women of Courage Award in recognition of her advocacy work on behalf of women and children in Trinidad and Tobago. The ceremony was held at the U.S Embassy to honor Mrs. Mahabir-Wyatt and to recognize and celebrate her work for women’s equality and children’s rights in the Caribbean.
The “2009 International Women of Courage Award” recognizes women who have shown exceptional courage and leadership in advocating for women’s rights and advancement. This prestigious annual award is granted to no more than one woman per country. Mrs. Mahabir-Wyatt’s dedication to poverty reduction and long-term commitment to improving the lives of women and children, her academic writings, advocacy and activism, and her unshakeable belief in equality, made her the Embassy’s choice as the International Woman of Courage.
