Ambassador Welters share a high five with the Youth Ambassadors

August 28, 2012: The first group of Youth Ambassadors from Trinidad and Tobago was advised by Ambassador Beatrice W. Welters to share their cultures, values, and to demonstrate the unique cultural mix of “this twin island nation and to show America the spirit that makes this country great”.

She was speaking to the 13 Youth Ambassadors and their mentors at a pre-departure briefing at the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy at Briar Place, Port of Spain on August 27th, 2012.

The Ambassador further urged the youths to build relationships with their host families and to learn skills that will empower them to be able to mobilize their communities for positive change, upon their return.

The Youth Ambassadors were chosen through a competitive process co-ordinated by the Embassy in collaboration with the Trinidad Chapter of the Partners of the Americas. They will visit the U.S. from September 4th to 25th. During the first six days of the trip they will meet with officials from government organizations and institutions in Washington D.C., before travelling to Maine to reside with their host families.
