Visit of Ambassador Susan Jacobs
March 26, 2012: Ambassador Susan Jacobs, Special Advisor on International Children’s Issues visited Trinidad from March 23-24, 2012.
She met with Attorney General Anand Ramlogan and head of the Civil Child Abduction Authority, to discuss the two countries’ shared goals and commitments toward resolving issues relating to children in the framework of the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. The United States ratified the Hague Abduction Convention in 1988, and Trinidad and Tobago became a party to the Abduction Convention on September 1, 2000.
Ambassador Jacobs and Attorney General Ramlogan also discussed their common interests and goals in reducing child abduction in both countries, increasing public awareness of legal avenues to return children to their rightful home, and promoting social justice for children throughout the region. These goals also coincide with topics discussed with Dr. Glenn Ramadharsingh, Minister of the People and Social Development, and with Senator Verna St. Rose-Greaves, Minister for Gender, Youth and Child Development, at meetings also held on March 23.
Ambassador Jacobs was accompanied by Ambassador Beatrice W. Welters and other advisors and embassy staff.
She was also able to visit the Rainbow Rescue Children’s Home during her trip.
