Fraudulent IRS Letters

The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Port of Spain advises the public that people have been receiving faxed requests for personal  banking information.  These faxes falsely claim that the U.S. Internal Revenue Service requires this information. Such faxes and the “IRS form” are fraudulent.  The IRS does not fax requests to the public and never requests such banking information.

For information about IRS forms and documents please visit their website at www.irs.gov.

Visa consultants and the green card lottery

The Consular section of the US Embassy also reminds the public not to pay for the services of “visa consultants.”  Anyone who offers to provide a visa or green card for a fee is committing an offense.  We have received reports of citizens of Trinidad and Tobago paying someone who promises to get them a green card or visa.  This person takes their money and is never heard from again.  Also, please be warned that the use of fraudulent documents in an attempt to get a visa or green card will result in a permanent ineligibility for a visa.  You may be arrested and subject to prosecution.

For more information, please visit http://travel.state.gov, call 976-USA1, or e-mail us at consularpos@state.gov.
