FULBRIGHT AMERICAN STUDIES INSTITUTES TO THE UNITED STATES

These are six-week academic programs for multinational groups of university faculty from all over the world.  The programs are held at university campuses throughout the United States and focus on a particular theme or topic within the discipline of American studies.  Eighteen to thirty foreign educators participate in each program, generally geared to more junior faculty.  We encourage applicants to consider that their applications need to be most professional, as candidates will be competing with worldwide applicants.  Programs are of 6 weeks duration. Deadlines will be announced in due course.

FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM TO THE UNITED STATES

The primary objective of the worldwide Scholar-in-ResidenceProgram is to bring scholars and professionals from other countries to U.S. colleges and universities that do not often host visiting scholars, upon the request of the U.S. institution.  This program differs from other Fulbright senior scholar awards because the primary activity is lecturing rather than research.  Under this program, interested U.S. institutions submit proposals to invite scholars for one or both terms of the academic year to teach and consult in interdisciplinary programs that focus on global issues, or in courses where participation of a foreign scholar can provide a cross-cultural or international perspective.  A special committee that determines the strongest proposals and recommends them to the U.S. Embassy reviews the institutional proposals.  Some of the proposals request a certain scholar, while others ask for a scholar to be recruited from a certain country or from a certain world area.  Applications deadlines vary.

FULBRIGHT SENIOR SCHOLAR PROGRAM FROM THE UNITED STATES TO TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

This program brings U.S. scholars and professionals to Trinidad & Tobago, where they lecture or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.  Each year, the U.S. Embassy in Trinidad & Tobago arranges for two to three lecturers/researchers to be assigned to the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus and/or other institutions at their request.  Further information can be found on the CIES website: http://www.iie.org/cies/.

FULBRIGHT SENIOR SPECIALIST PROGRAM FROM THE UNITED STATES TO TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

This program can bring U.S. academic experts to Trinidadian/Tobagonian institutions for two to six weeks, to lecture, lead seminars and work with foreign counterparts in the development of curriculum and course materials as well as conduct needs assessments, at the request of the local institution.  The program is open to qualified U.S. academics and professionals in the fields of anthropology/archaeology, business administration, communications and journalism, economics, education, environmental science, information technology, law, library science, political science/public administration, sociology and social work, U.S. studies (for example, art, art history, dance, economics, government, history, literature, music, popular culture, theater) and urban planning.  Costs for the Fulbright Senior Specialist Program must be shared with the host institution. The U.S. Embassy provides international travel and a daily honorarium.  The co-hosting institution must cover lodging, meals and in-country travel.  Participating institutions to-date, have been the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT), the Department of Behavioural Sciences and the Center for Gender and Development Studies, University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus; and the National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (Niherst).  Institutions must submit applications at least 3 months in advance of the anticipated arrival of the scholar.  Further information can be found on the CIES website: http://www.cies.org/specialists/ or by e-mailing: gregoirej@state.gov.
