    Jazz concert and Master Class April 2013

    The United States Embassy and the University of Trinidad and Tobago’s (UTT) Academy for the Performing Arts teamed up again this year to present two Jazz concerts and master class in observance of April being International Jazz Month. The first concert was held at the Presiden'ts Band Stand, Port of Spain on April 4 and the other at the Scarborough Esplande on April 6. A master class was held on April 5 at the Academy for the Performing Arts, POS.

    Chargé d'Affaires Thomas Smitham on April 3, 2013 hosted a reception in honor of the exhibition at the Chief of Mission Residence “Connecting Cultures: Contemporary Art from Trinidad and Tobago”. The exhibition features an installation of artwork from some of the brightest talent working in Trinidad and Tobago and was made possible by Geoffrey MacLean and Martin Mouttet from Medulla Gallery.

U.S. Embassy staff, with the assistance of several students from the University of the West Indies, recently dedicated their Saturday to working on the construction of a home for Seeta Dass and her family in the eastern district of Valencia.

    Deputy Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs Liliana Ayalde announced Junior Achievement T&T as one of the awardees for more than $1.5 million worth of small grants through the Women’s Entrepreneurship in the Americas (WEAmericas) initiative. The announcement was made on December 5, 2012.

    A wreath laying ceremony was held at the Chancery Gardens to commemorate the 11th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Embassy staff joined Charge d'Affaires David Wolfe and relatives of T&T victims in the ceremony. Fourteen T&T nationals were killed in the attacks.

    the Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate USS Underwood (FFG 36) visited Port of Spain from September 7-9, 2012. The visit was part of the deployment of the USS Underwood to Central and South America and the Caribbean in support of 4th Fleet’s mission, Southern Seas 2012 as well as it coincided with the 50th Anniversary of T&T Independence.

    The National Symphony Orchestra based at the Kennedy Center, Washington, DC performed at the National Academy for the Performing Arts, Port of Spain on June 15, 2012 in celebration of the country's 50th Independence Anniversary.

    U.S. Ambassador Beatrice Welters and students from Bishop Anstey East High School and Trinity College East, Trincity experienced the diversity and importance of Trinidad and Tobago’s bird population when naturalist Carl Fitz James invited them to participate in his bird banding exercise at Brasso Seco.

    The USNS Grapple visited Trinidad from March 19 to April 10, 2012 to engage the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard in series of diving exercises. The crew members also assisted in the restoration of the Perry Gate which was rededicated on April 4, 2012.
