Fulbright Hubert H. Humphrey Program to the United States

Offer of Fellowships Under the Fulbright Hubert H. Humphrey North-South Fellowship Program

The Public Affairs Section, United States Embassy, invites applications from nationals of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for the award of fellowships being offered under the Fulbright Hubert H. Humphrey North-South Fellowship Program for the academic year 2008.

Professional Areas

The program is designed to meet the requirements of policy makers, planners, administrators and managers who have a public service orientation, are committed to their country’s development and have demonstrated leadership potential. Candidates may be recruited from either the public or the private sector, including non-governmental organizations. Candidates in the following areas are invited to apply.

  • Agricultural Development/Agricultural Economics
  • Communications/Journalism
  • Economic Development
  • Education
  • Finance and Banking
  • HIV/AIDS Policy and Prevention
  • Human Resource Management
  • Law and Human Rights
  • Natural Resources and Environmental Management
  • Nonproliferation (government officials and leaders in the area of nonproliferation education and national security studies)
  • Public Health Policy and Management
  • Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration
  • Substance Abuse
  • Technology Policy and Management
  • Urban and Regional Planning

Fellowships are one (1) academic year of non-degree graduate study and related practical professional experiences in the United States.

Target Group

Mid-career professionals in leadership positions who have the required experience/skills and who possess potential for advancement in their professions.

Eligibility

All applicants must:

  1. Have a first university degree. Candidates with a master’s or doctoral degree are preferred.
  2. Have an outstanding record of professional accomplishments.
  3. Have a career pattern of progressively responsible experience – at least (5) years – and must be policy rather than research or technically oriented.
  4. Should demonstrate the required experience, skills and commitment while also indicating how they can benefit from this program in ways that they have not already experienced.

Substance Abuse Research Fellowships

Fellowships in the field of Substance Abuse Research are also available.

Target Group

Mid-level researchers, research managers and policy makers in universities, drug abuse prevention or treatment programs, health or social services industries or medical facilities with proven track records in research, as well as professionals employed by Social Welfare, Education or Community-based organizations who meet the eligibililty criteria.

Eligibililty

A medical degree or a doctoral degree in the Health, Behavioral or Social Sciences.

Ineligible candidates include recent university graduates, university teachers or academic researchers with no management responsibilities, individuals who have attended a graduate school in the United States for one academic year or more during the seven years prior to August 2007; and individuals with other recent U.S. experience (more than six months during the five years prior to August 2007).
