Public Lecture May 6 on the Role of the Media and Elections

The
Fulbright Alumni Association of Trinidad and Tobago (FAATT) and the
Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the United States Embassy invite all
Fulbright Alumni, journalists, and the general public to a lecture to
be held at the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section at 7-9 Marli Street,
Port of Spain on THURSDAY, MAY 6 starting at 5.30 p.m.
This is
the third in a series of lectures organised by FAATT and the PAS, and
is intended to mark National Journalism Week, which runs from May 2-8,
2004. Mr. Daniel Reilly and Mr. Lennox Grant will present at the May 6
lecture and discussion. This timely event comes on the heals of the
Caribbean Journalists Association Conference and Exhibition at the St.
Augustine Campus of The University of the West Indies, which is
focusing on issues such as The State of Press Freedom in the Caribbean
and Wider Commonwealth. Journalists from local, regional and
international media houses including CANA, the CBU, CCN, Stabroek News
and The Observer are presenting throughout the CJA Conference, and are
invited to participate in the Thursday, May 6 lecture and discussion at
the U.S. Embassy Public.
Mr. Reilly is a United States
Fulbrighter from the prestigious U.S. Think Tank, The Brookings
Institute, in Washington D.C. and is currently serving as a Staff
Reporter at the Trinidad Guardian. His work at The Brookings Institute
and the Trinidad Guardian has given him vast experience in the world of
foreign media. His focus will be on the Role of the Media in United
States Elections.
Mr. Lennox Grant is a renowned Regional
Media Consultant and current Editor at Large for the Trinidad Guardian.
Mr. Grant is also the immediate past Senior Editor for the Trinidad
Guardian and prior to his work at the Guardian, was the Senior Editor
of the Trinidad Express newspaper. He will focus his lecture and
discussion on “Trinidad and Tobago Media: Fair or Foul?”
The
Fulbright Alumni Association of Trinidad and Tobago was inaugurated in
1996, with objectives of fostering interaction among Fulbright Alumni
in Trinidad and Tobago; enhancing the professional development of its
members; fostering nation building and regional integration; assisting
in the recruitment, selection and orientation of Fulbright Fellows and
undertaking programs of action in accordance with the identified needs
and problems of the Caribbean Region.
