Scam IRS E-mails

Recently, residents of Trinidad and Tobago have reported receiving suspicious unsolicited e-mails purporting to be from the United States Department of Treasury Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and asking for personal information. These e-mails are not legitimate, and recipients should not to respond to them.

The U.S. Embassy in Port of Spain advises that the IRS does not initiate contact by e-mail and does not request personal information by e-ail. If you have received a scam e-mail, please report it to the IRS by forwarding the message to: phishing@irs.gov.

Detailed information on phishing and e-mail scams is available on the IRS internet site at: http://www.irs.gov/privacy/article/0,,id=179820,00.html
