Diversity Visa Lottery 2013
An annual diversity immigration program makes available each year by random selection 55,000 immigrant visas to people from countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S. Eligibility to apply for this Program is determined by a person’s place of birth, not citizenship.
Registration for the Diversity Visa lottery 2013 begins at 12 noon Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on October 4, 2011 and ends at 12 noon Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) November 5, 2011. The lottery will be conducted entirely electronically, no paper entries will be accepted. No entries will be accepted after 12 noon (EDT) November 5, 2011.

Starting May 1, 2012, entrants may enter their DV-2013 entry confirmation number into the Entry Status Check available at www.dvlottery.state.gov to find out whether their entry was selected or not. Subsequently, selected individuals who respond to the notification instructions provided on the E-DV selectee confirmation page on Entry Status Check will also receive notification of their scheduled immigrant visa appointment through Entry Status Check.
DV Webcast
On October 12, 2011 the State Department hosted a web broadcast by Deputy Assistant Secretary David Donahue explaining the Diversity Visa Lottery. The webcast focuses on how to register and check entrant status, the length of the registration period, how to avoid DV scams, and many other frequently asked questions. The program was streamed live to online viewers who submitted questions electronically in real time to DAS Donahue for his response. The program received nearly 700 logins across 55 countries and 6 continents. The 50-minute program addresses many of the DV program’s common questions and is now available at the following website:
