Diversity Visa Lottery

Immigrant Visas

An annual diversity immigration program makes available each year by random selection 55,000 immigrant visas to people from countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S. Eligibility to apply for this Program is determined by a person’s place of birth, not citizenship.

Registration for the Diversity Visa lottery begins at 12:00pm on October 2, 2009, until 12:00pm November 30, 2009.  The lottery will be conducted entirely electronically, including electronic entries. Paper entries are not accepted.

Please use www.dvlottery.state.gov to submit all entries.  Successfully registered entries will result in the display of a confirmation screen containing the applicant’s name and confirmation number, which can be printed.  The confirmation will also provide information the entrant may use to electronically check the status of the entry.

All successful entrants will be notified by regular mail of their successful entries, but only entrants who keep their confirmation pages information will also be able to check their entry status online.

Please refer to www.dvlottery.state.gov for more information.

Warning!!!

There are reports that an e-mail message is being sent out to possible Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery recipients that claims to be from the United States Government. The e-mail informs applicants that they have been chosen as a DV recipient and that they need to send an acceptance fee of $349.67 via Western Union in order to continue with the process. Such e-mail messages are fraudulent and should not be taken seriously. The United States Government corresponds with DV winners only through regular mail, and applicants will never be informed that they are DV recipients via e-mail.
